Replace All

Overview

Replace All replaces every occurrence of a selected component in the current assembly level with another component selected from those already present in the assembly. This avoids browsing for files on disk and helps keep replacements consistent.

Scope note: Replace All does not replace occurrences inside subassemblies. Use Replace All Nested to process the full nested hierarchy.

How It Works

  1. Select the component occurrence type you want to replace.
  2. Select the replacement component occurrence (already present in the assembly).
  3. The command finds all occurrences at the current assembly level that match the selected component and replaces them.
  4. Constraints/references are updated as needed.

Usage Instructions

  1. Open the assembly.
  2. Click Replace All in the Replace panel.
  3. Select the component to be replaced.
  4. Select the replacement component.
  5. Review the assembly to confirm all matching top-level occurrences have been updated.

Troubleshooting

  • Some occurrences were not replaced: They may be inside subassemblies (use Replace All Nested), or constraints/rules may prevent replacement.
  • Constraints break: Ensure the replacement is compatible with the original in terms of geometry/connectors.
  • Read-only/locked assembly: Verify the assembly/components are writable.

Examples

Update a fastener everywhere (top-level only): Replace every instance of a bolt with a new size/type in the current assembly level.

Swap a vendor part revision: Replace a purchased part with an updated version already placed in the assembly.
